Post at Your Peril: Identity, Politics, and Backlash on Social Media

Abstract

We bring together three speakers with different gendered experiences and who are all active, visible voices in online political and cultural discourse. Each has experienced public backlash in response to their commentary, but their journeys reveal that technology facilitated violence is not monolithic and is shaped by the intersection of identity, the topics one speaks on, and the cultural or political climate of the moment.
