Grant Opportunities - Year 2018

In line with its mission, the Saida Waheed Gender Initiative seeks to promote engagements that attend to the shifting and contested meanings of gender across different contexts. In addition to hosting events and facilitating online conversations, the Initiative seeks to promote faculty and student research.

Grants for Faculty

The Saida Waheed Gender Initiative will provide grants to faculty for the pursuit of creative and interdisciplinary research and projects relating to gender in Pakistan. In line with our mission and philosophy, the Initiative seeks to promote approaches that attend to the shifting and contested meanings of gender across different contexts.

The Initiative will provide funds to cover expenses such as:

  • Travel money to conduct research (e.g. a series of pilot interviews in preparation for a case study and/or a project)
  • Funds to involve a student research assistant
  • Funds to host an event or small conference

A maximum of 150,000 PKR can be applied for (smaller requests are welcome) and applications are expected by October 15, 2019.

Grants for Seniors at LUMS

The Saida Waheed Gender Initiative is offering small grants for student led research projects and senior projects that focus on, or use gender as a major analytical tool in their work. Undergraduate students from all departments/schools at LUMS can apply. Funds will be decided after careful evaluation of the research proposal by the Initiative’s steering committee, and are limited to 25,000 PKR. Grantees may be asked to present their work for the Initiative.

Interested students have to submit a brief proposal (300-400 words), outlining their project, budget plan, and research methodology – foregrounding the way(s) in which gender analysis is important to their inquiry.
