The Saida Waheed Gender Initiative is governed by a Steering Committee of LUMS Faculty, which meets at least once per month to review activities and envision the Initiative's direction and growth. Additionally, an Advisory Committee of individuals who have made seminal contributions in the field of gender studies provides the Initiative with a transnational network of support and insight. Both the Steering Committee and the Advisory Committee are chaired by the Faculty Director. The Initiative Coordinator serves as secretary of the Steering and Advisory Committees.

    Aimen Bucha

    Aimen Bucha graduated with an MA in Development Studies in 2015 from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex (IDS). She has published work with IDS exploring the nexus between gender, sexuality, and development by looking at the everyday lives of Khawaja Siras and a NGO programme. Before coming to LUMS, she was teaching feminist theory at the Beaconhouse National University. She has also worked with the Gender and Sexuality research cluster at IDS and has six years of experience working in the development sector in Pakistan. Her research interests include questions around unpaid carework, political economy of sexuality, feminist activism and political organising.

    Izah Shahid

    Izah Shahid has been associated with several media organisations in Pakistan, mainly as a sub-editor and digital media coordinator. She has worked with Daily Times and The Nation and wrote numerous pieces for both the newspapers. She has served the Government of Punjab, Chief Minister’s Digital Media Wing, as a photographer and digital media coordinator. During the tenure, she was one of the delegates at the Extraordinary Session of the OIC Islamic Summit Conference 2017 in Istanbul. She also took up the role of Marketing and Partnerships Manager at a ridesharing company ‘SAFR’, where she represented SAFR at the World Future Energy Summit Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2019. Moreover, she has managed the digital media of the Nerve Center at Indus News where she was also successfully engaged in the production of the digital shows, reality TV and video explainers. She is committed to working for the digital platforms of renowned institutes and her areas of interest include digital media content creation, graphic designing, photography and videography. Ms. Shahid also recently served the Mahbub Ul Haq Research Centre at LUMS.

    She completed her graduate degree with a major in Mass Communication and a minor in Sociology from the Forman Christian College University.

    Hiba Akbar is a Teaching Fellow at SAHSOL where she teaches Constitutional (Comparative) Law, Criminal Law, Introduction to Pakistan's Legal System and Introduction to Legal Reasoning.

    Hiba's research interests lie at the intersection of gender, labour and law. Before joining LUMS, she was a Lecturer at the School of Law and Policy at the University of Management and Technology, Lahore, where she had been working since completing her LL.M. She completed her LL.M from Columbia Law School as a Fulbright Scholar. She graduated from Columbia Law School as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. During her LL.M, she participated in Columbia Law School's 'Sexuality and Gender Law Clinic,' where she worked on reproductive rights and the rights of transgender prisoners in New York prisons.

    Prior to her LL.M, Hiba worked at a commercial law firm in Lahore and assisted on an exciting research study on rape law reform in Pakistan for the National Commission on Status of Women.

    Ayesha Masood is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behavior at the Suleman Dawood School of Business. Dr. Masood obtained her PhD in Anthropology from Arizona State University, USA in 2017. Her dissertation research project on women doctors’ representation in health workforce was funded by Wenner-Gren Foundation and American Institute of Pakistan Studies. Her prior education includes an MA in Political Science from the University of the Punjab, and an MBBS degree from King Edward Medical College, Lahore. Prior to joining LUMS, Dr. Masood has taught in Information Technology University and served as a doctor in Mayo Hospital Lahore.

    Her research, broadly situated in feminist and critical methodologies, focuses on issues related to gender in organizations, evidence-based health policy, managing human resources in health and policy implementation. Her work has been published in top-ranked journals of the world including Gender Work & Organization, Organization, Sex Roles and Gender, Place and Culture.

    Dr. Masood is currently working on developing a book on the work of women health providers in Pakistan. Her current research interests include cultural influences on network formation, front-line bureaucracy, and evidence-based health policy formulation.

    Cynthia Enloe

    Cynthia Enloe is Research Professor in the Department of International Development, Community, and Environment at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts. Professor Enloe's feminist teaching and research have focused on the interplay of gendered politics in national and international arenas. Her fourteen books include Maneuvers: The International Politics of Militarizing Women's Lives (2004), The Curious Feminist (2004), Globalization and Militarism (2007), Nimo's War, Emma's War: Making Feminist Sense of the Iraq War (2011), The Real State of America: Mapping the Myths and Truths about the United States (co-authored with Joni Seager) (2012), and Seriously! Investigating Crashes and Crises as if Women Mattered (2013). A new, updated edition of Bananas, Beaches and Bases: Making Feminist Sense of International Politics was published in 2014. Widely cited in both academic and media contexts, Professor Enloe has received numerous grants, guest professorships and lectureships, and awards for her work.

    Khawar Mumtaz

    Khawar Mumtaz is a Pakistani women’s rights activist and the Former Chairperson of the National Commission on the Status of Women. Mumtaz’s research focuses on women and development, feminism, politics, the economic and environment challenges facing women, and sexual and reproductive health. In 1989, she received the Prime Minister’s award for the co-authored book Women of Pakistan: Two Steps Forward, One Step Back? and is recipient of the civil award Sitara e Imtiaz for promoting women’s rights. Mumtaz has a Master of Arts in International Relations and a diploma in French.

    Tanika Sarkar

    Tanika Sarkar is Professor of Modern History at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Visiting Professor of History at Yale University. Addressing gender, colonialism, religion, and nationalism, her acclaimed works include Bengal, 1928-1934: The Politics of Protest (Oxford University Press, Delhi, 1987), Words to Win: A Modern Autobiography (Kali for Women, 1999), Hindu Wife, Hindu Nation: Religion, Community, Cultural Nationalism (Permanent Black, Delhi, and Indiana University Press, 2000), and Rebels, Wives, Saints: Designing Selves and Nations in Colonial Times (Seagull Books, 2010). She co-edited, with Urvashi Butalia, Women and the Hindu Right (Kali for Women, 1995) and with Sumit Sarkar, Women and Social Reform in Modern India: A Reader (Indiana University Press, 2008). Professor Sarkar has received numerous research grants, fellowships, and awards, including, in 2004, the Rabindra Puraskar from the Bangla Academy.

    Dina Siddiqi is Professor of Anthropology in the Department of Economics and Social Sciences at BRAC University. Dr. Siddiqi's research engages with issues relating to gender, labor, human rights, and transnational feminisms across South Asia; with a particular focus on Bangladesh, her numerous publications have addressed topics including women in the garment industry, minority rights, and the relationship between religion, politics, and the state. Dr. Siddiqi has previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania, Bryn Mawr, the New School, and Columbia University. She serves on the editorial board of Routledge's Women in Asia Publication Series and is a referee for Modern Asian Studies, Feminist Economics, and Journal of Refugee Studies, among others.

    Osman Khalid Waheed

    Osman Khalid Waheed is President of Ferozsons Laboratories Limited and CEO of BF Biosciences Limited, Pakistan's first biotech pharmaceutical manufacturing company. Established in 1956, Ferozsons became the first Pakistani company to be listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange, and is a six-time recipient of the KSE Top Companies Award. Ferozsons is the Pakistan partner for Gilead Sciences, Inc., and the Boston Scientific Corporation. In 2009, Ferozsons established BF Biosciences Limited under an international joint venture to produce treatments for Cancer and Hepatitis C treatment in the country. Mr. Waheed has served on multiple corporate and public sector boards, including Nestlé Pakistan, Murree Brewery, IGI Insurance, the Lahore University of Management Sciences, and the Pakistan Center for Philanthropy, and he represents the family of Saida Waheed on the Advisory Committee.

    Nasira Javid Iqbal

    Justice Nasira Javid Iqbal is a Pakistani jurist and law professor who served as a justice of the Lahore High Court from 1994 to 2002. Nasira Iqbal has a degree in intellectual property law from Punjab University, a Master of Laws degree (cum laude) from Harvard Law School, and a Master of Laws from Punjab University. As a legal scholar, she has lectured around the world and represented Pakistan at various international forums. She was one of the first five women to be appointed to the Lahore High Court, where she served as a justice from 1994 to 2002. She is also the president of an activist group, the Concerned Citizens of Pakistan Society (CCP). Among other honors, she received the Fatima Jinnah Medal for Women's Rights in 2006, the Woman of the Year Star Award in 2007, and the Wonder Woman Award in 2011. Iqbal has been a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, and the Pakistani delegation to the Human Rights Commission in Geneva. She is also a former president of the Lahore High Court Bar Association. Currently, she is a member of the executive committee of the Public Interest Law Association of Pakistan (PILAP); an honorary legal advisor to the International Women's Club, Lahore, and the All Pakistan Women's Association, Punjab; a trustee of Transparency International; and a member of the Pakistan Women Lawyers' Association.
